An interesting tidbit I came across today…

From the Peoria Journal Star: “A thief stole $6,000 worth of toys from a Hallmark store, the second time in as many weeks it has been burglarized, said its owner… ” Forget the cash and other collectible items, even thieves can’t get enough of our favorite virtual pets. Dang, the second time in two weeks huh? I guess we now all know the reason why so many retail shops selling Webkinz lock them up behind the counter.

and a follow up editorial from the same source:

“…Online auction site eBay has more than 11,000 Webkinz for sale, including some retired animals in mint condition going for thousands of dollars. Further, dealers hawk the toys at flea markets. Whenever that kind of money changes hands, someone will try to get a taste the easy way…” The question remains… did the person steal them for profit or for personal gain? WW should be on the lookout for any new member registering 40 or so pets in one fowl swoop!

Funny quote from Ganz PR Rep: “[Peoria] the new hotbed of Webkinz crime.
